First, this system serves nearly 100,000 people over six communities; Flossmoor, Glenwood, Hazel Crest, Homewood, South Holland and Riverdale.
Here we will address some of the critical things that you, as a caller would need to know about us, and what you should expect when you call 9-1-1 from your home phone, wireless phone, and VoIP Phone.
The person who answers your 9-1-1 call is a trained professional. They may ask you questions to determine what kind of situation you’re reporting, and what kind of help to send. As a caller, you need to be prepared to state the nature of the emergency, the location as best you know it, including what town you’re in. Remember, we dispatch for six communities, street names and addresses may repeat.
Be aware that answering these questions does NOT delay response! As your information is taken by the phone operator, it is being entered into a computer system. It, in turn, is seen by the radio operator who is sending assistance as the information is being entered.
